Content Management Systems. Which one do you prefer?
« on: October 26, 2009, 11:36:53 AM »

Hi there,

Congratulations fro the opening of the new forums. You see the Poll I've started, and please let me know which one is your favorite CMS. I'm using WordPress, but not because I like it more that others. It is just very simple to use. Otherwise my vote goes to MODx.

My choice is Wordpress as well. Very reliable, flexible and functional in every aspect. Its admin area is simplified and welcoming, perfect for beginners. Not to mention the unlimited amount of modules and plugins, which makes the development process a great deal easier.
Once you have advanced into the usage of Wordpress, the options are basically limitless.

I have to agree with Wordpress being a very good solution as well.  But it is somewhat limited in regards to news posting for members of a community.  It's admin area is by far the best available on the market today.  Rather funny that aspect, because both MODx and Drupal would be a much better overall solution in comparison to Wordpress, if their admin areas were better layed out.

I agree that Wordpress is the one that has simplicity and security in one package, but as timelessvoice said, is a bit limited for something else than blogs and simple websites. For portals, communities, etc. I use joomla.

I would have to say my top leading contenders are MODx and Drupal. I love MODx for it's flexibility and power, and for how designer friendly it is.
I've worked with Drupal for a long time and find it to be very powerful and scaleable, and I like it a lot too.

I find that each has it's own strengths and weaknesses, and they are suitable for different projects.

I use Wordpress for blog-only and personal websites and Drupal for websites where I need some additional facility like forums etc.

The thing that impresses me the most about wordpress is the vast variety of plugins and themes. You can have theme for any kind of website. Its like gazillion themes are there on internet.

Themes is one part where Drupal suffers. But when it comes to creating entirely custom websites, nothing can beat Drupal. CCK + Views are lifesavers :)
