Host Color has just finished a questionnaire that aims to determine how friendly is our Shared hosting service and our willingness to work client side. Please find our questions here in Host Color Forums.

Can you help installing a third party script which is not bundled on my account. Such as Dolphin or any other free software, any extra charge?

Sure. Host Color' technical support operators and system administrators are working hard to customize even Shared Hosting services. This costs a lot of time, but helps us to happy more happy customers. We are glad that you are asking for Dolphin, because unlike other web hosts we have pre-configured Dolphin Hosting Plan. We do not charge extra to set-up any application on customer's account. Of course depends of whether the software can run in our hosting environment - Apache, PHP/MySQL servers that use cPanel/WHM.

Migrating my account from another web host. Will you be able to do this and make sure everything is moved and working as it were? Any extra charge?

We do migration for our customers. They can take advantage from our promotional code MOVINGTOHC to get help with hosting account migration. No extra charge!

Help me troubleshoot a php application which is not bundled with my account. If there is an error, will you be able to help me troubleshoot it, or it would not be possible?

We usually help our customers with troubleshooting. However we appreciate their understanding that sometimes we might not be able to do this on schedule, because this is free value-added service.

Can you call me back at my phone number to provide guidance if I need assistance and guidance setting up something on my account?

Honestly we expect any of our customers to give us a phone call on our U.S. toll-free number or on Skype (HostColor) when they need help with website maintenance. We they need help we are there, but we still expect them to be pro-active in their hosting account management.

Do you provide Live Chat Support? I mean really support, not just a mediator where someone would eventually ask me to submit a ticket.

No! But we offer support through Personal Customer Care center called pZone, answer calls and provide support on Skype if any of our customers needs to chat with us. The Live Chat does not keep record of the communication and do not create a knowledge base. We are far ahead in customer care and belive that LiveChat is not suitable for high-quality customer service. unlike many other web hosts we do not outsource customer support. It is in-house operation.

What else would you be willing to do for your client as a token of your personal care service?

To help with the account set up and to learn them how to properly manage their Shared Hosting accounts.

How many domain names do you host on my existing server?


It depends of the machine. The proper answer is that Host color does not oversell.

At any point in time, can I request you to restore my account to a previous available set of backup. If so, is there any additional fees to it? Otherwise I may consider getting an off-site backup somewhere.

Yes, and there are no additional fees. However the customer shall do off-site backups on their own.

Do you support ffmpeg on my server?

Yes, we do.

Can you please install Mycrypt on php, I need it for one of my application. Also, if in the future I may require a php module that is not available, can you install it for me?

It depends whether application runs in Host Color's web hosting environment without need of changing it. Although we are very flexible, we can not change the server configurations for one customer in a way that it would affect other website owners.

Is it possible to change my main domain name on my hosting account later on? If so, what is the procedure?

Sure, no problem for this.

Does your server auto kill processes in case they reach a certain processing time or memory usage?

No, not automatically. This is something that our support operators monitor very closely.

What is the php max_execution_time set to? Can I have it set to -1

Yes, it can be set to - 1.

What is the php max_input_time set to? Can I have it set to -1

The maximum php execution time is 30 By the default. A -1 value would be incorrect.

What is the php upload_max_filesize set to? Can I have it set to -1


The upload_max_filesize is set to 2 MB but our tos provides flexibility which allows you to choose your max upload filesize. No the customer can not set it to - 1.

What is the memory_limit set on php?

The memory_limit variable is set depending on the hosting plan chosen it can be from 32 - 256

I am not intending to host an adult community site, but in any case should one of my member upload an adult related video into my community site, what is your policy in regards to it?

We aren't responsible for the content of the customer's website. As long as the content is legal we do not censor it. However hosting illegal content results in account suspension.

I am about to use GoogleApps as well, how do I modify my domains DNS records?

You will need to log into your cPanel and click on Mail afterwords you have to navigate to the "Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry)" and click on "Change an MX Entry." which will allow you to change your MX records to the google provided ones and you need to enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM instead of your own one.

I need to know your mail sending limit policy. How many emails can I send out per hour? Also, how big is the allowed mail attachments, is it possible for my users to attach 200 MB mpeg files or more?

The limitation are 50-100 emails per hour depending on the server load/performance as for the attachments you are able to send from 50 to 350mb's of files.

Do you use mod_security? If yes, can I turn it off for my own account using .htaccess?


Yes we use it and keep it enabled by default you can turn it off using the correct parameters within your .htaccess file.

Can I set my own php variables through my own local php.ini and .htaccess directives?

Yes we have enabled the freedom to control most of the functions and variables of php by htaccess and local php.ini files within your root directory.

Do you run phpsuexec on your server?

We keep it installed but enable it per choice for clients which are determined to use it with their web development.

Do you support magento installation?

Yes we fully support magento installation on our servers.
