Drupal vs. Joomla vs. MODx
« on: November 09, 2009, 04:38:31 PM »

OK. Those topics are silly but we must confess we love them.

We all know that each of the CMS as any software has its strong sides and advantages, but if you had to take one of the three out of a burning house which one will it be?

I for one will surely grab Drupal...

Joomla is probably easier to deal with, but Drupal is more matured and offers more opportunities to maintain and deliver different applications and services.

For me, Drupal is a winner. But I don't comment about Joomla and MODx because I never used them :)

I agree that Drupal is quite mature and enables a developer to "write less and do more" ( that's the JQuery slogan BTW ;)) .

However, if I only had the time I'd also have a better look at ModX - I think it's meant to be even more flexible than Drupal.

Those systems are beginning to shirt from a software you just install and use to an API that enables you to quickly build PHP Website.

This probably shows there is a market void for really useful and practical PHP Web page APIs ... not just PHP Cake + Smarty, but something that enables you to create pages, widgets and content without all the low level coding.

That's a hard question for me because I love both MODx and Drupal, so if I was running out a burning house and could only take one I would be very very conflicted.  I would probably die in there trying to grab both... lol

Drupal is very powerful, and so is MODx in the right hands.  They both have their strengths and weaknesses in terms of flexibility, extensibility, and in the variety of things you can accomplish with them.
