Tutorial: How to setup Dream Weaver with your hosting account
« on: October 31, 2009, 08:05:04 AM »

Hello,

Dream Weaver is powerful piece of software which allow you to create and edit web pages. Using FTP client to upload your website is quite easy. However except its quality site building functions Dream Weaver could also upload your newly created web site directly to your hosting account with just few mouse clicks. This tutorial assumes that your domain name is "my-domain.com" and your FTP user account is "admin@my-domain.com".

For the initial Dream Weaver configuration you should go to Sites -> New Site and then click on the Advanced page. The most important settings are located on the first two pages:

Local info:

Site name: the name your site as you want it to appear in Dream Weaver
Local root folder: the folder where you want to store your website files
Default images folder: the default folder for your images

Links relative to: Site root
HTTP address: http://my-domain.com
Case-sensitive links: unchecked (recommended)
Cache: unchecked

Remote Info:

Access: FTP
FTP host: my-domain.com
Host directory: mainwebsite_html (for our NextColor control panel)
or
Host directory: public_html (for cPanel)
Login: admin@my-domain.com
Password: ***** (the password for user "admin")
Use passive FTP: checked

Testing Server:

This page allows you to add another server on which you could first test the modifications you have made to your files and then upload them to your hosting account. If you are planning to use such server just choose "PHP MySQL" for "Server model" and then type your FTP settings as described above.

I would personally recommend to do not change the options of any of the other pages unless you have reason to do it. All the other default values are normally configured correctly and you shouldn't experience any issues with them.

I guess thats all I could think of for Dream Weaver  :). I hope that the tutorial would be useful for some of you who decide to use Dream Weaver. Please feel free to shoot me with any additional questions or comments  :)
