Question:

Hello,

First of all, thank your post on the topic I opened. I was wondering if I can ask you some advice? I'm currently still thinking if I should buy reseller of VPS. Like I said, I don't have much experience with managing own server so reseller would be good but then again if I want reseller have to share with other people and if they cause problem I will have it as well.

I wouldn't mind if the reseller don't work for few hours but if it happens more than few times per day then that would be a problem. I have a few fansites which one has used over 12 GB. The coppermine gallery has over 22.000 photos and over 7 million views. It use around 340 GB bandwidth per month. The GB, photos and views will probbaly increase in the future since the fansite is about a very famous actor and I have around 5 000 visitors a day. Some of the fansite's gb, photos, bandwidth etc may increase as well. Would you recommend me reseller of VPS?

HC Answer:

Hello,

I appreciate your question. It all depends of your budget. I do not like Reseller accounts, because they aren't that different from standard Shared Hosting. The only things that is different is that they have some tools taht allow you to resell and manage customers... but this is not what you need.

On the other hand VPS allows you to work in isolated environment and provides you with guaranteed resources. Another good things that you shall not underestimate is that when you have your own VPS you are learning new technology and using a higher class hosting solution. Of course this inflicts some costs, especially if you need a VPS management.

If you have a budget around $50 you can get Managed VPS from ANY web hosting provider. There are a bunch of quality providers of VPS around! You can also get an unmanaged VPS and to find someone in the appropriate WHT's section who would manage it. I presume per hour rates would apply.

Hope that the above things helped you!

PS: Do you wonder why we didn't promote ourselves and didn't offer any of services to the WHT member? The answer is that it is not polite and it is also prohibited according to the forum rules!
